Lingyuan Yang is a composer and performer currently based in The Hague, NL. His artistic practice spans contemporary classical music, electronic music, multimedia composition, and improvisation.

Drawing from free jazz, metal, digital art, emerging technologies, and audiovisual media, he explores and expands possibilities of sound. He received his bachelor’s degree from The New School in New York and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in composition at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague.

His music and performances have circulated worldwide, particularly across Europe, the United States, and China. His works have been performed by ensembles including JACK Quartet, Residentie Orkest, New European Ensemble, and Mannes American Composers Ensemble. As a performer-composer, he has appeared at vital sites of contemporary music, art, and performance, including MoMA, John L. Tishman Auditorium, Amare in The Hague, Korzo Theater, The Grey Space in the Middle, Orgelpark, and encounters bookspace Berlin—creating artistically expressive moments across diverse performance contexts.

His artistic research explores emerging musical languages through self-built electronic instruments, free improvisation, and custom human-machine interfaces. Since 2022, he has shared his research and presented performances at Tokyo Geidai MAX Summer School and the Hangzhou International Electronic Music Festival.

He has received multiple international awards, grants, and professional musical press. His trio album Cursed Month received wide acclaim in the international avant-garde music scene and was selected for several year-end lists, including PopMatters’ “Best Jazz Albums of 2025,” Bandcamp Daily, The Free Jazz Blog, and Avant Music News. The group has toured internationally and received strong recognition at venues such as The New School and Huanglou (Hangzhou, China).

His artistic world has been shaped through close collaborations and exchanges with figures including Eric Wubbels, Chris Otto, Ingrid Laubrock, Nathan Davis, Joe Morris, and Miles Okazaki.

Situated at the intersection of performance, sound, and media arts, he has participated in collaborative projects spanning fashion performance, time-based media, sound installation, and experimental film. His work has been presented through collaborations with institutions and platforms including New York Fashion Week, the Shanghai Digital Art Festival, ICMC, the Future Media Studio at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in China, and Beijing Institute of Fashion. He also develops independent fine-art and curatorial practices, and has presented solo exhibitions at 798 Art District (Beijing) and West Den Haag.
